In the movie Bobby Jones - Stroke Of Genius, Robert “Bobby” Tyre Jones, Jr. played by Jim Caviezel (The Passion of the Christ) was an amateur golfer who loved to play the game of golf. His natural born ability and his passion for the game brought him to the highest level of golf and never earned a dime. He is the only player in the history golf to win the “Grand Slam”. The Grand Slam is holding the championship of all four major championships simultaneously, U.S.Open, The Open Championship, the U.S. and the British Amateur Championships. Make sure you check out the equipment Bobby uses, it is truly primitive.

This film is set in the twenties and thirties, adding a sharp contrast of family ideals between Grandfather Jones, “Big Bob” Jones and Bobby Jones. Times were simple back then and that theme comes to life through out this film.

O.B. Keeler played by Malcolm McDowell and Mary Jones played by Claire Forlani are Bobby’s support. Without these two characters, the story would have been very different story.

Here at the Movie Rental Review and as an avid golfer, I really enjoyed this film. I would recommend this film Bobby Jones - Stroke Of Genius to anyone who loves the game or enjoys a great story.

Here is what others are saying about it:
BOBBY JONES – STROKE OF GENIUS is the most underrated movie of the year. It is very human history. It’s not just a male movie; it’s about family, relationships, and friends. Jeremy Northam is terrific as Walter Hagen. It has winning performances by Jim Caviezel, Malcolm McDowell, and the winsome Clair Forlani. It’s as sure and effective as an eagle putt. Bobby Jones was the original Smarty Jones.”
–Tony Macklin, ESPN Radio.

“… BOBBY JONES can score with the entire family.”
–Stan Urankar, Cleveland Sun Newspaper

STROKE OF GENIUS is captivating. It is more than a story of an athlete and champion. It is the story of great man that is set in the and around the game of golf. The film is brilliantly shot, and the settings flawless. For a time I forgot I was watching a movie but felt that I was actually there reliving Bobby Jones’ quest for the Grand Slam. I look forward to sharing this film with my children and hope that they will find inspiration in this timeless story of commitment, determination and ultimate triumph.
–MG Orender, President, PGA

“It is a privilege to share the story of Bobby Jones with Golf Course Superintendents Association of America members….To share his legacy and values is a responsibility for those in golf. I know our members and fans of golf will enjoy this movie.”
–Steve Mona, President, Golf Course Superintendents Association of America

“Thumbs Up!”
–Ebert

“Counting his appearance as Jesus in Mel Gibson’s The Passion of the Christ, Caviezel now has the distinction of being in the two best movies so far this year. BOBBY JONES - STROKE OF GENIUS is superbly edited and photographed. The golf courses and the golf games are lovingly, even poetically, realized. The soaring music by James Horner lifts these images into the sublime….a thoroughly captivating, well-acted movie with many positive lessons about grace under pressure.”
–MOVIEGUIDE®

“ [This] independently produced film boasts all the qualities of a Hollywood movie….At least in broad strokes, the film brings to mind old-fashioned sports biopics such as “Pride of the Yankees,” but juiced with an ’80s lushness and bombast lifted from Chariots of Fire and The Natural….Caviezel turns in his customary intense performance to persuade us of Jones’ determination to succeed….The cinematography by Tom Stern, who most recently did Clint Eastwood’s “Mystic River,” captures both the beauty of first dawn glistening on dew-soaked greens and the sleekness of the Jazz Age in all its creamy nostalgia…. Shot in Scotland and Georgia, the visuals have a buffed authenticity, and the costumes and production design are detailed re-creations of the Gatsby-like accoutrements of natty clothes, country clubs and motorcars.”
–Kevin Crust, LA Times

“The same spiritual mystique that Chariots of Fire brought to running, is even more hushed in tone than its prototype. Most of the mystical heavy lifting is done by the cinematographer Tom Stern and the composer James Horner, whose string-heavy score blankets the film in lofty, tastefully inspirational layers of gossamer laced with bagpipes and other Scottish flavors.”
–Stephen Holden, The New York Times

“…Handsomely made….Caviezel is wonderful. He catches the great golfer’s steely determination, sturdy optimism and reflective generosity.”
–Eleanor Ringel Gillespie, Atlanta Journal Constitution

“BOBBY JONES has all the classical ingredients of a sports spectacular; physical obstacles, a crusty mentor (Malcolm McDowell), the inspiration of a loyal love (Claire Forlani), the anguish of multiple bitter defeats on the road to victory, the difficulties of becoming famous fast.”
–Jeff Franace, Daytona News Journal

“…STROKE OF GENIUS is a lovely, well-acted production, with fine performances….”
–Jack Garner, Rochester Democrat & Chronicle

“A truly inspiring film! And an encouragement for parents to introduce their kids to the lifetime game of golf at an early age.”
–Dan Van Horn, President, U.S. KIDS Golf

“…a movie that will find its way to the hole.”
–Dan Bennett, San Diego North County Times

“STROKE OF GENIUS is a beautiful story about the life of Bobby Jones. His story gives us an inside look at one of golf’s true gentlemen and greatest heroes.”
–Stephen Hamblin, American Junior Golf Association Executive Director

“Bobby Jones was defined more by his character than his trophies. There are great values and lessons in this film for all of us. The First Tee is excited and grateful to be a charitable partner of The Bobby Jones Film Foundation, and to encourage the participation of our Chapters and the young people they serve.”
–Joe Louis Barrow, Jr., Sr. Vice President, World Golf Foundation & Executive Director, The First Tee

“One of the things that attracted me to this project is the legendary nature of who Bobby Jones was and the beautiful way this was expressed in the film. Jones’ story was one of extraordinary skill, talent and accomplishment that was matched by great humility and courage. In Bobby Jones - Stroke of Genius, [Director] Rowdy Herrington has made an exquisite film….”
–James Horner, Academy Award-Winning Composer

“ Academy Award winner James Horner, who penned the scores of an impressive list of films that includes Titanic and Braveheart, has created a musical landscape every bit as lush and dramatic as the courses where Jones left his mark…Jim Caviezel is on a winning streak.”
–The Golfer
