Guess Who puts Bernie Mac against Ashton Kutcher in a lite hearted comedy that mixing black and white. It touches on racism, which rather bugged me as I thought we were over this topic. Simon Green (Ashton Kutcher) plays a white stockbroker who stood up for what he believes in, not what other people legislate and now is unemployed. Theresa Jones (Zoe Saldana) who is Simon’s black girl friend and soon to be his wife take a trip to Cranford New Jersey to meet her parents for the first time. One catch, her parents do not know the colour Simon’s skin. Theresa’s mother Marilyn (Judith Scott) believes that her father Percy (Bernie Mac) should keep out of his daughter’s business. The first meeting does not go well as Percy mistakes the black cab driver as Simon. Percy and Simon’s relationship spirals down from there. Percy is against the relationship Simon and Theresa share until Percy figures out why Simon quit his job. He starts to see Simon in a different light, which helps him with his own relationship with Marilyn.
The Movie Rental Review found this movie to be hilarious. Mac and Kutcher make a great comedy team. I also found the scenes very funny when Theresa and Marilyn head over to her sister’s house. There is some great comedy centered around seasoned women giving Theresa advice on dealing with a man.
