I love the original, but who can resist Johnny Depp? He made a perfectly creepy Willie Wonka and did justice to the roll. My 6 year old laughed and laughed at this movie. It was a good movie, but hardly followed the books story line. However, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is almost identical to the book. I was very surprised by this. The visuals in the movie are great as well. One can tell that the movies effects are all real, no cgi here! The oompa loompas are also very entertaining, while their songs are taken from the book itself, not created out of the writers’ head (like the original). The acting is superb. Depp gives off a loving, yet dark, vibe to Willy Wonka, which makes Wonka very interesting. Highmore is one of the best child actors around. Highmore, as Charlie, plays an innocent young, normal boy, whom everyone can relate to in one way or another. Burton did an excellent job at directing, as he always does. I would say that this movie is one of the, if not the, best children movies of the year! This is a movie everyone can enjoy! The original movie was so different from the book.
