Kingdom of Heaven is about lowly blacksmith who has an unknown noble father, he is charged by his father to carry on his father’s duties in Israel after his is dead. In 1184 there is a blacksmith named Balian (Orlando Bloom) who is in mourning over the recent death of his wife and child. The Baron Godfrey of Ibelin (Liam Neeson) who traveled to where Balian lives, to tell him that he is his father. After a scuffle with the town’s priest, Balian decides to follow his father to Jerusalem to cleanse all his and his wife’s sins. His wife committed suicide, and according to the Catholic doctrine, she will be sentenced to hell. They are forced to battle while on the road to Messina because, the bishop is not happy that Balian killed one of his priests. During this battle, Godfrey suffers a fatal wound, but before he passes on Godfrey knights Balian as Baron of Iblein. Some months after surviving a shipwreck, Balian arrives in Jerusalem to try to hear what God as to say to him but he hears nothing. In Jerusalem, he serves a king Baldwin IV (Edward Norton) who suffers from leprosy and the Marshall of Jerusalem, Tiberias (Jeremy Irons). There is also a Templar Knight named Guy de Lusignan (Marton Csokas), which takes an instant dislike to Balian. This does not stop Balian from having an affair with Guy’s wife Sibylla the Princess of Jerusalem (Eva Green). Unrest is brewing as the Arab leader Saladin (Ghassan Massoud) has massed an army of 200,000 men address the raids the Templar Knight are engaging against the local Arab people
The Movie Rental Review thought this was great film. The story and large-scale battle scenes are quit stunning. The references to the Catholic doctrine were hilarious, which made a lot of sense why during that time-period, people did the deeds they did and where highly commended.
