The Exorcism of Emily Rose is based on a true story about a 19-year old girl named Emily Rose (Jennifer Carpenter). She died violently from demonic possession, her body just shutdown. This movie is a testament to her story, to shed light on the dark forces that surrounds all off us. Not just one demon but six possess Emily. Father Moore (Tom Wilkinson) is the family’s parish priest; the authorities ultimately blamed him for Emily’s death because of the exorcism. A hotshot defense lawyer Erin Bruner (Laura Linney) defends Father Moore for his alleged crime. The trial is more like good verses evil as the character Erin Bruner soon see for herself. I liked how the flash backs of the film revealed the story, slowly. It added an interesting view to the film. I found this movie very touching as I do believe in the spiritual realm and the dark forces that the movie alludes to surround all of us whether we believe in them or not. Emily was put through a very tough ordeal for God’s work. Emily was even given an out but she decided to stay and endure the pain so others would realize the spiritual world exists. I was disappointed in Laura Linney, she walked away from this movie without even a question if any of this is true.
The Exorcism of Emily Rose is a great movie to raise questions of a spiritual nature. What do you believe?
